THE PHOENIX RISEN STORY
Phoenix Risen, is an independent, self-financed and debut feature-length film made by South African artist Henry James Fisher.
Henry Fisher’s debut feature-length film Phoenix Risen, is not just a passion project as in the sense of a hobby done in spare time. There is much “downtime” in an industry that is notorious for working personnel to the bone with insecure work contracts. Over five years, Henry took a risky plunge and dedicated a massive proportion of this “downtime”, his spare finances and other resources to seeing this project through to completion. Marshalling these resources solo, and featuring a local cast – some whom he paid from pocket, others current and former colleagues that value his capabilities
Henry has produced and directed a film that offers a dramatic view of one of South Africa’s lesser spoken social pestilences. Set in the environs of Cape Town, Phoenix Risen tells a local story about human trafficking and its devastating consequences. Henry describes it as a story that is close to his heart and is also inspired by his personal spiritual journey. It is intended as dramatic entertainment, that simultaneously foregrounds serious social messaging.
